The Gothic Bride

Details, Details, Details, you've either Gothic or you don't.
As a Gothic Bride, you might be wondering how your going to create the perfect Gothic wedding, the kind of wedding that will wow your Gothic guests yet at the same time prevent your more traditional guests from bearing crosses and drenching themselves in Perfume A La Garlic.

Like other Bride's, you might be feeling stressed and overwhelmed as you try to find the right vendors that can work together as a team to build a bespoke wedding that isn't just based on a theme, but on your  personal lifestyle.

By now I'm pretty sure that as you research your local vendors and  flip through countless vendor portfolios  and pages on the net, you might be even more stressed because you can't find what your looking, as a Wedding Planner, I'm not going to lie to you and say that the industry is flooded with vendors that cater to  non traditional weddings, because it's obvious that traditional weddings gloss each and every page.

I will also stick my neck out by saying that at times you might be feeling like a token Bride, the kind of Bride that has everyone's mouth open followed by vocal glee and almost cartwheel inducing excitement that YOU, GOTH BRIDE have come knocking on their door for wedding related services.

But mirror mirror on the wall, is there someone, anyone out there in wedding land that can see that you are just like any other Bride who just so happens to be looking for perfect wedding venue, picturing the most beautiful hand tied bouquet, searching for a stunning Bridal dress and someone that can do your makeup in a way that makes you look Bride beautiful, lifestyle in mind.

Check out Gothic Beauty Magazine for beauty tips and makeup looks that will give you the inspiration that you need towards creating a fresh look for your Bridal Makeup.

Almost ready to pull your hair out? Yes I know, sigh and I feel your stress I really do, because by now I'm sure that you realize that most people assume that a Gothic wedding equals a Bride in a black gown, a bouquet  made of dead roses and a typical midnight cemetery ceremony, followed by dimly lit reception in someones backyard.

But we both know that none of that is true, Gothic Bride's have been known to wear white, they get married on the beach and carry flowers that aren't dead, black or blood red.

Though I don't live the lifestyle I do love the look and the creativity that goes towards creating it. The flawless makeup, the bold colors and dramatic effects, the clothing. Black painted finger nails with one nail painted red. The statement!

As a Wedding Planner I enjoy each and every opportunity that I get to create one of a kind signature weddings that focus on details that are not always about the deliberate placement of theme specific props in order to create a theme inspired wedding that isn't built on a lifestyle, but on a fairy tale dream.

It's beautiful to watch details come alive and flow seamlessly.

And though I travel anywhere in the US, England and the Caribbean to help my Brides to have their dream wedding, and you can contact me if you need my help. I want to help you where you are right now, so that you can have the kind of wedding that you are dreaming of and get rid of the Gothic cookie cutter mold.

So what exactly do you need to do in order to prevent a cookie cutter out come? The answer is focus on the details. It's that simple. It is? you might ask and the answer again is It's that simple I promise.

So here are 5 Tips to create your Gothic Style Wedding.

  1. Blank canvas, forget the magazines searching the net, instead go back to the drawing board.Chances are you weren't born Goth, and your fairy tale wedding dreams might have changed quite a bit over the years. Even so the basic foundation of those dreams remain. What kind of wedding do you want? How do you want to feel on the day. What memories do you want to create that will last a life time? How do you want your guests to feel? What details are the most important? Is it the venue? food? photos? your dress? flowers? When you go back to the drawing board, you will be able to visualize your day and by doing so you can tweak every part of it to fit your lifestyle
  2. Pictures, pictures, pictures.that detail traditional looks that you want to Gothistyle! Now there's a new word for you. (Created by Angelique, Mr. Webster, just in case its used and needs to be entered in the dictionary.) But seriously Gothistyle your wedding. Take a traditional look and envision it the way you want for it to be, whether it be color, texture, style or look. Love Swarovski Crystals? Why not have them embedded in your bouquet for a stunning bouquet? Don't like the idea of flowers but you saw a picture in a Bridal magazine of a bouquet made of pink and white feathers, not so traditional, but totally non cookie cutter for a Gothic wedding. Picture the splash of color that takes on a dramatic look as a signature statement piece.
  3. Details, Think about  details big and small, and develop a check list for every area of your wedding. For example instead of using glass champagne flutes and wine glasses, use silver goblets, but instead of opting for sparkling silver, incorporate slightly tarnished looking silver, that has lots of detailing in the stems.
Have your invitations custom made. Talk to a cake artist who can bake a yummy cake but who's decorating skills are a work of art. Select wedding linens that are stylish and choose chair covers and tosh the sash and opt for a crystal buckle.

Implement details that are fresh, unique, handmade and statement pieces.
  4. The Look, If you want to wear white but you want to change the traditional look revamp your style, shock a little but still look classy and chic. Your hair might be dyed jet black, but how about dying it red or purple, even burnt orange and wear a beautiful white lace veil? Note: Keep it Goth, with your makeup, accessories, get creative not yes I'm going to say it, no stupid. Need some inspiration? Check out the video below of Alexander McQueen's 2013/2014 Fall Winter Collection. Incorporate vintage, and you can't go wrong.
  5. Clarity Be clear with vendors, until you have what you want, Not settle for something that isn't going to make you happy, just because it takes more time to get everything the way you want it.

Add some Bling to your bouquet

Host your ceremony and reception in an historical house or museum, which makes for great venues to host your wedding.
